Fantasy and Sci-fi authors: RL Stedman, Carolyn McCurdie, Debbie Howell, Daniel Stride, Mark McCabe and Kura Carpenter read a bite-sized taster from their novels. Plus there’s an opportunity to win FREE books on the night!

RL Stedman is an award-winning author who lives in Dunedin with her husband and two children. If she’s not got her nose in a book, she’s on instagram or twitter (@rlstedman) or at her local library.
Carolyn McCurdie is a Dunedin writer of children’s fantasy, young adult science fiction, poetry, short stories. Her novel The Unquiet, published by Longacre Press 2006, was included in the Storylines Trust’s list of Notable Books of 2007.

Daniel Stride is a speculative fiction writer from Dunedin, with a fondness for chocolate, cats, and library books. Daniel is well-known within the blogging community as quite the Tolkien expert and his refreshingly-original dark fantasy novel Wise Phuul features zombie librarians!

Deb E Howell is the bestselling author of UK publisher Grimbold Ink. Her mix of fantasy, Wild West adventure and romance is described as “stories that grab you by the heart.” She lives on a small farm in Waitati, which she hopes one day to turn into a funpark/retreat.

Mark McCabe and his partner recently moved to the Dunedin area from Australia. Mark says he can’t think of a better place than New Zealand in which to live and write fantasy stories. He will be reading from his recently published YA epic fantasy series, Chronicles of Ilaroi. The series comprises two books: As Fire is to Gold and When All the Leaves Have Fallen.

Kura Carpenter enjoys telling lies and patting greyhounds. Her debut urban fantasy crime novel is set in contemporary Dunedin with one twist: what if magic were real and the gangs controlled it? Her writing is filled with dark humour and darker magic.
